X-Eagle "Beginning Their Search"
by: Svann

"Beginning Their Search"
by Lt. Commander Svann

The thrum of the Pathfinder's warp engines, coming through the deck beneath his feet, was a welcome feeling after having delivered the bad news to so many parents concerning their lost children.  Svann had never been good at dealing with human emotions.  He had come to accept them as a part of his human crewmates, but it did not mean he had to like it.  Still, Svann reasoned, it could have gone worse.
Having Dr. Ane there with him, and the station's counselor, helped in dealing with the parents' questions.  The two had been able to answer their questions with much more soothing answers, and with the chief medical officer's two children being among the missing, the other parents were easier to convince that all that could be done, was being done to find the shuttle.  Many of the parents had almost demanded to be a part of the search party.
Svann had considered their request and even assigned a couple officers to take a runabout and search a certain radius around the station.  He also convinced the remaining parents that they should stay put in case one of the other ships searching for their kids was successful and returns tot he station.  It would be best to have parents for them to come home to.
The next thing Svann had to contend with was dealing with Dr. Ane.  Since they had departed Pasteur, she had either been on the bridge or called him for a report at least ten times.  The Vulcan briefley wondered about the decision to bring her along, but also realized there would have been no stopping her from coming on the search.  As he once again sat down in the command chair of the Sovereign-class starship, he glanced at the chrono.  It was almost time for her to call again.
