JDL: Captain McCloud, Dr. Ane, Queen Cosette, Vet. Rinette and Tajimo Captain Rayne McCloud moved into his office aboard the USS Eagle. He activated his wall monitor, to see if Tajimo had returned to the screen. He, also, indicated for Dr. Ane, and Vet. Rinette, to have a seat on the sofa that was along the one bulkhead. Rinette jumped up on the cushion and sat, facing the opposit wall, where the monitor was built in, and normally just looked like a blank wall when the monitor was off. Rayne put some water, a couple glasses and a cup/bowl on the table in front of the sofa. “Captain, before the Queen comes on, we need to run something by you. It has to do with Vet Rinette.” Celeste started, seeing Rinette watching the screen intently. “When we were in Sickbay demonstrating our instruments and procedures, we had a chance to scan Rinette. We found an aggressive tumor that has to be removed sooner rather than later. It has already been causing problems for her. Dr resork and I can remove it in a couple of hours, and she can recover for a short time here, and then light duty for a day or 2 on her own ship. We need your approval, and possibly the Queen as well.” The captain looked between Rinette and Celeste. He gave a nod. "Well, of course you will have my permission. I suppose we will have to see what the queen says." He looked more to Rinette. "Do you believe we can convince Cosette that we were not trying to compare her to... her nemesis? When the counselor mention lady, he was not referring to a specific being. In our culture, the word, 'lady,' is used to refer to a female of our species." Rinette listened. Her head tilted, as she pondered what the captain had told her. "I see the mistake that was made," she finally said. "It may take a bit of talking, but I believe we can convince Queen Cosette it was not meant as a comparison of any sort." Should we toss her a treat? McCloud thought, to himself. He gave Rinette another nod, then looked back to the screen. Celeste got up from the couch and walked over to the Captains desk and pitched her voice as soft as she could. “Captain, even if the Queen says no, I am still bound by my oath to perform the surgery on Rinette. SHE has given her permission, and that is all “I” require. If it comes down to it, we will need a minimum of 2 hours for surgery and minimum 4 for recovery. That would be the fastest I would even consider releasing her. This NEEDS to be done, soon. If we leave it, it will threaten any chance she has to be a mother, and even possibly her life. I hope it doesn’t come down to it, but can I count on your support?” Rayne considered this a moment. He looked to his chief medical officer. "I understand your point, Celeste," he said. "However, we will not start an interstellar war over this. We will do what we can to persuade the queen of the dire necessity of this operation, but if she forbids it, we are bound by the Prime Directive to concede to her wishes." He looked to Rinette. "I do hope you understand my position here." Rinette's ears slid back, and she bowed her head. "I do understand, Captain." She looked back up, sorrow in her eyes, glancing first at Rayne, then to Celeste. "I do not wish any hostilities to begin over me." Celeste’s vowed to herself that the surgery WOULD be performed, one way or another. She couldn’t allow this to harm Rinette any longer. She just nodded. The captain recognized that look in Celeste. He'd seen it many times before in the chief medicl officer of Pasteur Station. "You're just like your mother. You know that?" Celeste smiled sweetly, “of course. You knew that before I came on board. Youve said it often enough” "Yeah, I'm a real glutton for punishment," McCloud grumbled before turning his attention back to the monitor. Celeste knew she would have the captains support as much as he could arrange. She just hoped it didn’t come to that! She went and sat down next to Rinette and patted her shoulder again. “You doing okay?” Celeste ran her tricorder over Rinette; slight shock, understandable under the circumstances, but knowing that Rinette needed to be calm and in control for both the talk with the Queen as well as the surgery after, she reached into her medkit and retrieved a small tablet, which she held out to Rinette. “Here, this will help. Tajimo appeared on the screen, about to say something, but she suddenly jumped with a startled yip. "Oh my. Do you change rooms so frequently?" She asked sounding disgruntled and snorted. Then she looked to Rinette. "Our most esteemed vet. You look just as disturbed by this change. What sort of trickery did they use to get you there? " McCloud suppressed the smile that threatened to come out. He looked over to Rinette, and gave her a slight nod. Rinette looked to the screen. "Tajimo," she said in greeting. "No, I am not confused by the change of rooms. Dr. Ane, here... " She pointed to Celeste, sitting next to her. "... thought a more private setting would be more appropriate for this. I... need to speak to the queen." "Of course she will," Tajimo started to say, but she suddenly disappeared with a grunt of pain, and Cosette appeared on screen looking a little harried. She shook her head, straightening herself out a little. "My dear Rinette. Are they treating you well?" she asks trying to be calm, but obviously anxious. Rinette looked to the screen. The semi-calm feeling she had forced herself into, threatened to collapse on her, at seeing, not only her queen, but her trusted friend. Not many understood the queen, and, truth be told, Rinette did not like her at first, either. But, the more she had served with Cosette, the more she had come to understand the bitch, and had developed a true friendship with her. "My Queen," the veterinarian replied, a slight quiver in her voice. "They are treating me well. Celeste... Dr. Ane, is a being worth your acknowledgement. And, they have this strange being with no scent, but he is also very kind." Celeste smiled thinking of Ian and his “no scent”. She didn’t say anything at this time though. She was next to Rinette for support as she spoke to her Queen. Rayne wanted to open with an apology to Cosette, and to try to explain the inadvertent offensive statement, but he thought this might soften the queen's opinion of his crew. He, too, remained quiet as the two, obvious, friends spoke. Cosette looked over at Dr. Ane, considering and then let out a soft grunt of approval. "You said you needed to speak with me. When will you be coming back to The Conveyance?" Rinette gave a nod. "Yes, I need your permission, My Queen. Permission for an operation of dire urgency." While her voice trembled, and her features showed her fear, she explained to her leader of the results of the scan the humans performed. "They say they can perform the surgery straight away, and that I would require eight hours of observation, but I will be able to return to the conveyance after that. Would it please my queen to have Dr. Ane speak as well?" "A surgery?" Cosette grunted and grumbled, visibly upset. "My sweet trusted Rinette... " she paused with another grumble and a soft whine. "I trust that you have the best understanding of the situation. I don't like this but if you feel this surgery is needed and you trust that these... creatures can take proper care of you, than I respect your choice and you have my permission to proceed." Celeste nodded at the screen. “Thank you Queen Cosette. We will do our very best to heal Vet Rinette and return her to your ship in better condition than she is now.” Turning slightly to Rinette, “is there anyone from your ship that you would like here for you, before or especially after the surgery?” Rinette looked from Celeste, back to the screen. There was someone she would want there, but the vet would never dare the imposition. She looked into Cosette's eyes, gave the queen a grateful nod, then looked back to Celeste. "No. I will be fine." Rayne took this opportunity to finally speak. "Queen Cosette. I do wish to apologize for what you took as an offensive statement. We would never do such a thing to an honored guest." He was laying it on thick, throwing her a treat, so to say. "The term Counselor Nguyen used is an honorific to female members of our species." Speaking softly for only Rinette to hear, “do you have blood on board your ship for transfusion, should you need it? I would like to have 4 units on hand, just in case. Hopefully we won’t need it, but it’s better to have it.” Rinette gave a soft nod to the human doctor. "Yes. I can have it sent over," she replied in a soft voice. “Do you want to do that now, or we can go to sickbay and have the Bridge contact your clinic for the supplies. We can discuss other medications as we walk”. Celeste was even going to talk to her about her “support person”. Seeing how scared Rinette was trying to hide, Celeste was more determined to have someone there for her. Cosette gave a disgruntled chuff. "How unfortunate for your species." The captain suppressed the chuckle. "We do have our faults, Your Majesty. Can you forgive us this little trait. I promise it shall not happen again." "Of course. It is forgiven. So eight hours and then we go home?" she asked, leveling a look on Captain McCloud. Rayne gave the queen a confirming nod. "Eight hours and we will send you back to your universe." “Ten hours. Two for surgery, eight hours for recovery.” Celeste supplied McCloud shot his CMO a glare, then looked back to the screen. "Correction, Your Majesty. It shall be ten hours, as you just heard my chief medical officer report." Celeste shrugged. She had reported 10 hours initially, not her fault the Queen only got the 8 hour recovery. Cosette was silent for a moment but then let out a chuff of approval. "Rinette. Are you sure someone shouldn't be there to guard you?" She asked with a slightly aloof sniff. Rinette's ears came forward, and she looked at Cosette. She then relaxed again, touched by the queen's offer. "I am certain, My Queen. The humans are good people. I detect nothing but genuine concern for my welfare." Cosette grunted and nodded. "Very well." The captain looked to the queen. "Your majesty, you can transport back over and be there for Rinette, if you wish." The poodle looked almost horrified, Oh, I would never ask that of my queen, she thought to herself, but did not voice it aloud. "Yes, that will do well," She replied as if it was her idea. The Eagle's skipper gave another nod. He glanced to Rinette, who seemd to have a disbelieving, but eternally grateful look in her eyes. Rayne looked back to the screen. "I shall have my OPs officer transport you over when you are ready, Your Majesty. And... Thank you." “Thank you Queen Coset. We will be in Sickbay. We can have you escorted there when you beam aboard.” Celeste then turned to Rayne. “Captain with your permission, we will be in Sickbay. Rinette needs to have some supplies sent from the Conveyance, I’ll have her contact them through the bridge when we get to sickbay.” She then mouths to him “thank you for that” meaning getting the Queen to support Rinette. Celeste then touched Rinette arm to get her attention so they can head to Sickbay. "Of course. I am always ready," Cosette said nonchalantly. "Very well," McCloud confirmed. "We will beam you over straight away. Thank you, Queen Cosette." He looked to Rinette and Dr. Ane, giving them a nod to get things in motion. =/= To be continued in sim... =/= |
