Duty Log: Dr Celeste Ane, CMO
Surgery Success
Celeste was checking on a sleeping Rinette once again. Her biostats being in the normal range at this time. The completed surgery was long, and had only 1 complication. Just when they were ready to remove the growth from the uterus, a small bleed had occurred. They were able to get control of the bleeding but it had taken several minutes to find the hidden vessel. In the end, the tumor was gone, Rinette was receiving 1 unit of blood to replenish her supply and make sure she was back on her feet quickly, and all indications were good that she would be able to couple and get pregnant. Celeste was going to prescribe her some vitamins for the next 6 months to help increase her chances of getting pregnant and maintaining a healthy pregnancy.
Rinette had been conscious the entire surgery, speaking to Celeste, Ian, Dane and Queen Cosette. She asked many questions during the surgery, and it was obvious that this type of surgery was not usually performed. Celeste asked and was told in a quiet voice that had this growth been discovered on her world, she most likely would have ended up with a spay. No one would have been able to separate this invasive of a tumor from her uterus. When the bleeding started, Rinette was sure she was going to lose her uterus. She had voiced this is a strained, tear-filled voice when the surgery was completed. It was an emotionally charged statement showing just how anxious Rinette was and trying to hide.
With Rinette's reluctant approval, she had been given a sedative to rest and let her anxiety levels reduce. She would recover faster with some sleep as well.
Queen Cosette had remained at her side, and very supportive throughout the entire procedure. Even with the minor complication, she did not falter, pass out, turn pale. She just steadily kept Rinette focused on other things and her eventual recovery.
After the completion of the surgery, Celeste had offered the Queen some chamomile tea and a place to rest while Rinette rested. When she declined, Dane had offered to finish her tour of the ship. This she allowed, and left Sickbay with him.
They were now nearing the end of Rinette's observation period, and Rinette while still asleep was showing signs of returning consciousness.
Celeste took a hypo from the tray on the bedside table and injected it directly into Rinette's abdomen. It would prevent pregnancy for 2 weeks while the uterus completely healed; give it time to strengthen to hold a pregnancy to term. Celeste was just sorry she wouldn't be able to see if this was successful enough to allow Rinette to be a mother.
The vitamins that Celeste and Ian had tailored would help foster a successful pregnancy, they hoped. Rinette would also be given the formula to create more to help with any future pregnancies.
Celeste sat down at Rinette's bedside with a cup of hot tea to await her awakening. She would be sad to see her new friend leave, but hopefully she would have a long and prosperous life and raise several pups to follow in her footsteps.
