Baptism By Fire
Amelia sat down and breathed a sigh, mostly because he was finally off her feet but also because Dr Resork had said she’d done a good job with Converse’s treatment. She hadn’t really thought about the fact that Dr Ane had stepped back to observe and made Amelia start the treatment and then was off to help the wounded elsewhere. In fact Amelia had been so focused on the care of the patient that she hadn’t even realized Celest had left her with Dane. She was just glad she had been able to save her patient. Converse would spend a day or two in recovery, but he would be right as rain in a few days. Talk about another baptism by fire. She’d thought those were over now that there was a living doctor. She remembered the first time she’d been forced to play a greater role than what her nursing skills had given her when that Alien and his mate were found and she’d been forced to help with the difficult birth of their child amid a damaged vessel. There had been a few other moments when she’d had to go be Dr Resork’s hands. It was hard to go on an away mission if you are a hologram.
In any case, all those classes she’d been taking had definitely given her the knowledge to treat the more seriously wounded. Her main concern was that knowing what to do did not always translate into being able to do it. She was nervous about getting experience, because they didn’t have practice out here on procedures. Sometimes, in fact most of the time, it was in the middle of some emergency.
