With a strength born of his artifical nature, the hologram plucked the Captain out of her chair and placed her on the deck. He ripped open her uniform tunic......which was stained with blood. After another quick scan, he opened the First Aid kit that had been offered to him......selected two hypos and removed the ampules. He selected two locations, marked them, then used a phaser on minimum to make an incision. Into this he placed the first hypo, the used the suture beam to seal around it. He repeated the procedure on the other side, then made small adjustments. Both hypos began to make an almost inaudible hissing sound as they bled off the excess pressure within Kat's chest cavity.
"That's the most I can do for her here. She needs to get to Sickbay where I can repair the damage. This will buy her some time......but not much."
ON:
It was several hours later in the damaged remains of Columbia's Sickbay. The EMH has just come out of surgery. He was met by Admiral Mallory. "Well??"
He gave a slight nod as he peeled off the surgical gown and gloves, carefully depositing them in the disposal unit. "She'll live. Her chest cavity was a mess of damaged organs. Both lungs collapsed, and she had a ruptured spleen. We managed to repair the damage, but blood loss has left her in a coma. I didn't want to attempt to wake her as it will be more advantageous to her recovery if we allow the body to wake up naturally."
Mallory nodded. "Long term prognosis??"
The EMH shrugged. "We'll be doing routine EEG's to monitor brain function. It's a game of wait and see Admiral."
Quen nodded, fighting back emotion. "Keep me posted Doctor."
